Winter is still in full swing, but things are heating up as Valentine's Day approaches! Plan a long weekend away in Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County.

Art of All Kinds

Art to See and Hear

Get out on the town to catch fantastic musicians of many genres: some world renown and others that are locally famous.

The First Friday Art Walk is back for 2025! Peruse the downtown Lexington galleries on the evening of Friday, February 7 to meet artists, see the latest exhibitions, and enjoy excellent food, drink, and maybe music along the way.

The King's Singers have represented the gold standard in a cappella singing on the world's greatest stages for over fifty years, and they're coming to Lexington. See their concert, "Close Harmony," at Lenfest Center for the Arts February 7 at 8 p.m. It celebrates highlights of The King's Singers repertoire since its founding in 1968, including arrangements of English folksongs as well as songs by Billy Joel, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Gershwin and Bob Chilcott. The third annual National Pan-Hellenic Council Step Competition will be held at Lenfest Center for the Arts on February 8 at 6 p.m. Featuring historically Black Greek-letter organizations, the competition showcases the creativity, precision, and tradition of stepping, a performance art rooted in African American history and culture. Tickets are required. Buy Now

This month and next you are invited to check out Stephen Towns' work at Staniar Gallery inside Lenfest Center for the Ats. Towns' exhibition, "Loud As The Rolling Sea," features fiber works that delve into quiet, contemplative moments and underscore the significance of Black American history. The exhibition will be displayed February 17 through March 14 and can be seen during Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.

Valentine's Day is February 14 and we have the run-down on all the special ways to Celebrate Love in Lexington this Valentine's Day.

Get Outside

Don't let the cold keep you from moving about. Get your heart rate up a bit with some outdoor activity.

Birding at Boxerwood is an opportunity for novice birdwatchers to learn from seasoned folks. The Rockbridge Bird Club hosts the monthly bird walk the second Saturday of each month (February 8) from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Dress appropriately for the weather and don't forget your binoculars.

The Lone Star Rodeo will deliver your cowboy fix February 22 and 23 at the Virginia Horse Center. Barrel racing, bull riding, calf roping, and bucking broncs, of course, will provide excellent adrenaline-filled entertainment. There are special activities for kids 10 and younger prior to the start of each show. Tickets are required.

National Wedding Month

Did you know February is National Wedding Month? It makes sense. According to WeddingWire.com, Valentine's Day is the second best day to get engaged behind Christmas Day. If Christmas passed you by, now's your chance to bend the knee.
