KG Motel, originally built as the Keydet-General Motel by Buster Moore in 1962, is a refreshed and reimagined roadside stay in Lexington, VA brought back to life by Madi Ford and Michael Meers. With deep ties to the surrounding universities — Washington and Lee and the Virginia Military Institute — and alumni networks, the motel has welcomed generations of travelers, new and old, on their journey through Rockbridge County. Reimagined for today’s guests while honoring the original spirit of the space, the 53-room motel blends mid-century nostalgia, unbeatable Blue Ridge scenery, modern comforts, and a playful style that’s both fun and deeply rooted in community and connection. From vintage school memorabilia to locally sourced retail items, food & beverage offerings, local handcrafted furniture, and amenities, Virginiamade is not a buzz phrase but a philosophy.
Guests can expect newly renovated rooms with a vintage flair (think neon blues and pinks, atomic-accents, and all the nostalgia) and contemporary comfort, pet-friendly amenities, a fenced in dog park, an outdoor patio with a firepit and lawn games, a lounge area for gathering, complimentary local coffee and curated pantry items, and BuddyLou’s — the motel’s restored 1959 Shasta trailer servings drinks with a side of nostalgia.
