Museums at Washington & Lee University: University Chapel
Completed in 1868 at the request of Washington College President Robert E. Lee, University Chapel (first known as “the College Chapel”) has been a gathering place for the campus community since its inception.
A center of campus, University Chapel houses a 500-seat auditorium, museum, the Lee Family mausoleum, gravesite of Traveller (Lee's horse), and Lee's office as university president. The museum experience is spread across both floors of the University Chapel and aims to share the comprehensive story of the Chapel’s history through interactive exibitions and galleries.
Group Tours and School Trips are welcome with at least 7 days advanced notice. Email historymuseum@wlu.edu for more information.
Hours of Operations: Wednesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
