Rockbridge Weavers: Families & Fabrics in the 9th Century
- Date
- June 29, 2024
- Time (Duration)
- 12:00pm (4h)
Event Description
Drawing on new archival finds in the Baer Family Papers (housed at Washington & Lee University Special Collections Library, and featured in this exhibit), we can reconstruct some of those familial, social, and economic relationships.
Most of those surviving ledgers and drafts are tied to the remote Rockbridge community of Panther Gap: at the eastern edge of the distinctly visible mountain pass connecting into Bath County, hugging Mill Creek, 4 miles couple miles NW of Goshen.

Through July (12-4 PM, Saturdays & Sundays), regular demonstrations at the RHS Museum will use period techniques to weave these authentic draft designs into new fabric samples.
