Event Description

The members of the Shester, Datz, and Newhall Bluegrass Trio (Blake Shester, Burr Datz, and Dan Newhall) have performed together for many public and private events since 2011. They play an entertaining mix of traditional, contemporary, and progressive Bluegrass with a high lonesome three-part harmony that will melt your face. Blake Shester has been playing banjo since he was fifteen years old and has performed in a variety of bands in California, Tennessee, and Virginia. Dan Newhall lives in Zack, Va. and has been a bass player since 1964, playing and singing bluegrass, old-time, folk, and country music, currently with Datz Us Ramblers, New Corner Grocery, Greenhouse, and others. Burr Datz has been learning guitar since 1961, performing in a variety of bands since then in a variety of musical genres: blues, country, old-time, and bluegrass. Currently he performs with the Datz Us Ramblers and Greenhouse. They are delighted to be returning to Boxerwood’s Music in the Garden Series.

GATES OPEN AT 5:30P, SHOW FROM 6:30-8P PARK IN THE FIELD AT THE END OF MUNGER LANE

This annual summer series is a local treasure. It is so refreshing to attend a Friday night event where family, friends and neighbors can enjoy great local music in a relaxing atmosphere. The concerts are also kid and pet-friendly, affordable, easily accessible and welcoming to everyone.

Musicians take the stage at 6:30 and conclude at 8pm as the sun goes down. The gate opens at 5:30 pm so that early arrivers can meet up with friends to picnic, socialize, or get a bite to eat. Globowl Cafe will be serving food for purchase.

Admission to Music in the Garden is free for kids and current Boxerwood members and $5 per adult for non-members. There's no charge for parking in the field. We have handicapped parking and the terrain is suitable for wheelchairs.

Bring your own beverages, lawn chairs, blankets. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome as long as you clean up after them. In the Boxerwood tradition, our gatherings are zero waste, so please be mindful and pack out your trash.

In the event of rain, concerts will be postponed. For more information, including “iffy” weather updates and food truck posts, keep an eye on the website and our social media pages.
