Plein-Air Oil Painting Workshop

Event Description

The Workshop at Timber Ridge in Rockbridge County offers this two-day workshop taught by Roanoke artist, Paulina Swietliczko. Participants will paint outside (weather permitting) and everyone will find a spot with an interesting view on the property outside The Workshop, work on their idea sketches, and then start to paint—first using one tone, and then with a limited color palette.

Before starting to work outside, there will be an introduction to plein-air painting as well as a demo.

Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. Please bring a sun hat with a brim or sunglasses to protect your eyes, sunblock, tick/mosquito repellent & a snack. Remember to dress in layers and to bring a long-sleeve shirt.

Saturday, May 31 | Day 1:
Introduction to plein-air painting
Charcoal on paper idea sketches
One-tone underpainting on a tinted canvas

Sunday, June 1 | Day 2:
Painting using a limited color palette
Color mixing
– This workshop will be limited to a group of 10 people
