Something Fun to Do
Southern Rockbridge
Top-rated family fun is a must, and destinations like Virginia Safari Park are all about it. You can spend hours perusing the Safari Village, visiting and feeding the residents. Take your time in the Aviary to make a few feathered friends, admire the adorable kangaroos, catch a glimpse of the rare King Cheetah (the only one in the United States), and get eye-to-eye with a giraffe. Drive your car through the 180-acre park with a bucket or two of animal feed to lure the wildlife to your window. Up for something special? Book an encounter with sloths, African penguins, or Southern white rhinos. Virginia Safari Park is in the conservation business and you can learn all about it with their very special residents.

An Appalachian Trail Community, Buena Vista is experiencing a rebirth along Magnolia Avenue. Historic downtown Lexington boasts excellent architecture, green spaces, and friendly people. Walk our brick sidewalks to visit the locally owned shops and galleries. It will be a tall task, but you'll want to sample as many restaurants as you can. Ingredients are sourced as close to the restaurant as possible, which ensures the freshest plates for your palate's pleasure.

Hop aboard a narrated horse-drawn carriage tour with Lexington Carriage Company. It's the best way to get historical facts and tidbits, as well as sight-see from an elevated angle. Take a cadet-led walking tour of Virginia Military Institute, the country's oldest publicly funded military school and training ground for figures like Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall, United States Army Colonel James B. Hickey, and United States Marine Corps Major General Paul W. Brier. Explore the VMI Museum to see artifacts representative of the college and alumni.
