ROAP Logo Contest

About the RAOP Logo Design Contest

The Rockbridge Area Outdoors Partnership (RAOP) was formed in 2018, after a three-year planning process that developed a master outdoor recreation and trail plan for the area.

RAOP exists to provide opportunities to collaborate on outdoor recreation opportunities to support economic, stewardship, community health and wellness goals. Over 30 organizations have joined, including representatives from different government, education and community-based organizations in the area. The Partnership meets quarterly, and has project teams that work on opportunities for project development, marketing and promotion, and grant and fund development. For information regarding outdoor activities available in the Rockbridge region, visit www.rockbridgeoutdoors.com.

The purpose of this contest is to design a logo for RAOP. The logo may be used in all media – including online, print, on merchandise and other visual collateral, including signage on trails in the Rockbridge region. Following are the official contest rules:

Official Rules

Entrants must be a high school student enrolled at Parry McCluer High School or Rockbridge County High School, or a high school student who lives in Rockbridge County, Lexington, or Buena Vista.

All entries will become the property of the Rockbridge Area Outdoor Partnership. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees that any and all intellectual property rights in the logo design are deemed assigned to the Rockbridge Area Outdoor Partnership.

Except where prohibited by law, an entry submission into this contest constitutes permission to use the winner’s name, likeness, the entry form for publicity purposes, without further permission or compensation. If the contestant is a minor, parental signature is required on the application.

RAOP reserves the right to modify the winning logo to better fit the needs of the partnership.

The selected winner MUST submit a scalable vector version of the winning design so that it is adaptable to electronic and print media, to reproduction on small and large surfaces, and to use in color or in grayscale.

How to Enter

  • Complete the entry form and submit your entry online.
  • Create a logo design and submit the entry in .jpeg, .psd or PDF formats.
  • No more than 3 entries may be submitted by any one person.
  • The deadline for entries is midnight on April 1, 2019.
  • If entrant is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must digitally sign the online application at submission.

Submission Guidelines

The purpose of the contest is to design a logo for the Rockbridge Area Outdoor Partnership. The logo will be used primarily on trail signage, and may also be used online and in print. The trail signs will be small, durable signs approximately 4-6 inches in diameter. Therefore, the final image must be legible at this size.

Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily and to look good in black and white as well as color. The final version of the logo will need to be suitable for high quality printing.

The logo must also contain the words "Rockbridge Area Outdoor Partnership" and/or the website "RockbridgeOutdoors.com."

Due to the requirements for high quality printing, if you are chosen as a winner, you MUST be willing to work with a graphic designer to adapt your image into a scalable vector graphic format (EPS). We advise against the use of halftones and gradients unless created inside a vector graphics program.

Prizes

The winner will be awarded a hiking backpack courtesy of Walkabout Outfitter. The backpack can be for day hiking or overnight hiking—winner’s choice! The winning logo design will be announced in May 2019 and printed in the local paper.

Judging and Selection of the Winner

The winning logo design will be selected by a panel of judges from the Rockbridge Area Outdoor Partnership.

If the winning design is not submitted in a scalable, vector version, the winner must agree to work with a graphic designer (chosen by RAOP) to adapt the image into a vector format.

RAOP deserves the right not to select a winner if, in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received.

Intellectual Property

All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing design.

All Entries will become the sole property of RAOP and may be displayed publicly on websites, print collateral and signage associated with RAOP.
