Description

This description is in a clockwise direction.

From the parking area, walk toward the bridge and the Kendal property. There is a path that exits to the left. It immediately forks. Take the left fork and begin to climb through the meadow. The Sunnyside Trail is a mowed path. The grade is an easy uphill climb.

Four hundred feet into the walk, a path exits to the right. It leads into the woods and the other end of this loop path. There is another path on the left, at 800 feet, that leads out to a rock plateau. Just past this path, there is a bench on the left. There is a good view of the Blue Ridge from both the rock and the bench. After the bench, the climb is a bit more moderate. The woods are on the right, and Ross Road is on the left. The climb ends at 0.25 miles. There is a path on the left that leads to Boxerwood.

After the Boxerwood Trail, the Sunnyside Trail bends to the right and begins to descend. It enters a grove of tall White pine. At 0.3 miles, there is a right switchback followed by a left switchback. The grade is now an easy descent. The path comes to a bridge at 0.42 miles. Crossing the bridge leads to the Kendal property. Kendal is private property, so please stay on the trail. The Sunnyside trail makes a hard bend to the right and follows a small stream. It is now a mowed path.

At 0.5 miles, the path narrows considerably for a short distance, where it makes a short climb. At the top of the climb, it widens back out and is again flat. There is another bridge on the left at 0.55 miles. This also leads to Kendal. Continue straight. There is another short path up through a tunnel of Autumn olive. This is followed by another short descent. A path exists to the right at 0.6 miles. It goes back into the meadow. A flat section of mowed trail leads back to the beginning of the loop.
