Student age: High school juniors, seniors & recent graduates

This course is for high school students and recent graduates interested in pursuing a career or higher education in studio art. We will work together to develop fundamental drawing skills as well as a theoretical base in the contemporary art world. We will be partaking in equal parts discussion and practice. There will be guests in different artistic career fields that come to share their work and process. We will learn how to productively critique artworks, develop projects, and work through roadblocks in the creative process. By the end of this course each student will have a created a small series of works based on their own artistic interests as well as have a coherent artist statement and working resume.

Two large format sketch pads

Small daily sketchbook

Artist pencils

Micron pens


Watercolor paints

Portfolio case

Other supplies will be provided according to each student’s proposed project
