Natural Bridge Station – Glasgow
The town of Glasgow is about 2.5 miles downstream on the James River from Natural Bridge Station. Glasgow has recently added an access point where the Maury River and James River meet.
This trip is offered by Wilderness Canoe Company (WCC). Starting at WCC, your boat and gear are taken to the waters edge and launched at your own pace.
Float, paddle, play, and relax as the river gently takes you to Glasgow. You will encounter two class II rapids on this trip with shallow flowing water in between. This trip borders the James River Face Wilderness area. Great fishing opportunities can be found throughout this stretch of river. At 2.5 miles, you can be in Glasgow in an hour or you can take your time and spend 2 or 3 hours exploring and relaxing.
Once at the confluence of the James and Maury, your boat and gear will need to be carried up the 26 railroad tie stairs and carried about 200 yards to the waiting bus and trailer for the return to WCC. This is very strenuous and is only recommended for those capable of a strenuous take-out.
