The members of the Shester, Datz, and Newhall Bluegrass Trio (Blake Shester, Burr Datz, and Dan Newhall) have performed together for many public and private events since 2011. They play an entertaining mix of traditional, contemporary, and progressive Bluegrass with a high lonesome three-part harmony that will melt your face. Blake Shester has been playing banjo since he was fifteen years old and has performed in a variety of bands in California, Tennessee, and Virginia. Dan Newhall lives in Zack, Va. and has been a bass player since 1964, playing and singing bluegrass, old-time, folk, and country music, currently with Datz Us Ramblers, New Corner Grocery, Greenhouse, and others. Burr Datz has been learning guitar since 1961, performing in a variety of bands since then in a variety of musical genres: blues, country, old-time, and bluegrass. Currently he performs with the Datz Us Ramblers and Greenhouse. The Music in the Garden summer music series welcomes everyone to the field at Boxerwood Gardens, located at the end of Munger Lane, off Ross Road. Gates open at 5:30 (no earlybirds, please) and the concerts are from 6:30-8:00. Entry fee: $5 per adult, Boxerwood members free, children free (and welcome to run and play). LexMex Taco will be set up in the field for amazing eats. Folks are also welcome to pack a picnic. Please pack out all trash you bring, as this is a zero waste event. Reusable and recyclable items are highly recommended. This event is a special benefit concert for Boxerwood staff gardener Scott Mason, who is undergoing treatments for metastatic cancer. Parking fees and non-band donations will go towards his medical costs.
