Home Again: The Custis Family Portraits

One hundred years ago, Washington and Lee University acquired twelve portraits of prominent and influential members of the Custis family of Virginia from a bequest of Mary Custis Lee in 1918. Dating to the 18th and early 19th centuries, these paintings are historical documents of Southern culture that tie together important artists with their patrons and extended families and friends. Several have been on loan for a number of years to the Mount Vernon Ladies Association and to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

This exhibition marks their return “home," running April-August 2018 in the Watson Pavilion, on the campus of Washington and Lee University.

Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
