July in Lexington

Welcome to July and Summer in Lexington and Rockbridge County! You're invited to join us for a week-long Independence Day celebration with events stretching weekend to weekend. It's the perfect time to #CrushFridayVA and cash in those vacation days.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

We're kicking off the celebration with the Freedom Food Festival on July 3 from 5 to 10 p.m. A brand new event for 2019, the festival will feature local chefs paired with "celebrity chefs" from area non-profits. The pairs will prepare picnic style meals which will be judged. The winning celebrity chef will pocket at $500 prize for his or her non-profit. Come for the food but stay for the excellent entertainment! Both Love Canon and Erin & The Wildfire will perform for this free festival.

Families flock to downtown Lexington for the annual Children's Bike Parade on Main Street. Bring your bikes to The Hub at the top of Main Street to join in the decorating (a bag of fun stuff is provided!). Families will parade through the city at 11 a.m. Leashed pets and strollers are welcome.

One of the most beautiful sights across Lexington and Rockbridge County are the hot air balloons floating gracefully above during Independence Day week. Make your reservation for a Balloons Over Rockbridgeride July 5 or 6. A festival with music, tethered rides, and balloon glow will be held at Oak Hill across from the Virginia Horse Center.
