January 4 is also Live Music & Dancing at Clark's Ol' Time Music Center in Raphine. Try a little flat-footing or sit back and appreciate those who can sufficiently cut a rug while the band plays.

Devils Backbone Outpost Tap Room & Kitchen welcomes local and regional musicians to set the mood and create an awesome ambiance a few times a month.

  • Jan 11: Craig Hanson
  • Jan 12: Ryan Greer
  • Jan 18: Bryan Elijah Smith

Wednesday mornings are for bluegrass music at Blue Phoenix. Find something tasty for breakfast and tap your toes for a while.

A new exhibition will be unveiled January 7 at Washington and Lee University's Lenfest Center for the Arts. Alison Hall's "Invocation" is a play on the eyes with intricate, tiny patterns that only reveal themselves when admired up close. From a distance, the pieces seem to blend into a monochromatic work. View these from a variety of distances to get the full effect. "Invocation" is on display through February 6.

BODYVOX "Urban Meadow" is a dance event you won't want to miss. See it live at Lenfest Center for the Arts on January 10.

January 19 is the Ice Ball at Robert E. Lee Hotel. Ice Ball: Dancing with the Rockbridge Symphony is an opportunity to waltz, polka, swing, salsa, and more to the wonderful live music of the Rockbridge Symphony. Tickets are required and will sell out in this small venue.

Sip some award winning Rockbridge Vineyards wine and enjoy the music of New Plank Road (pictured at the top) during Winter Uncorked at the Vineyard on January 27. From 1 to 4 p.m. the band will play their set of hard driving string folk; don't miss it.

Natural Bridge State Park is a crown jewel of Rockbridge County (not to mention its name inspiration). Visit the park this month to take part in the following:

  • Nov 23 - Jan 1: Festival of Trees
  • Jan 1: First Day Hikes
  • Jan 15: Winter Speaker Series - So You Think You Want to Keep Bees?
