August Events and Activities

August is the final hurrah of Summer in Lexington and Rockbridge County, making it the perfect time to #CrushFridayVA and use up a few vacation days. Beat the dog days of summer with a cold craft beer in honor of August Virginia Craft Beer Month, then check out one of these upcoming events.


ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Every Thursday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. you're invited to visit the Campbell House to see "Opening Old Doors," an exhibition of the barns of Rockbridge County. The exhibit will be available through the end of 2019.


Boxerwood's Music in the Garden Concert Series features JC Cowins August 9 and Red Hill Band August 23. Shows begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring a quilt and enjoy dinner from the food truck.

The Friends of Hootieville Jam Session will be held August 9 and 10 at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista. Join in the fun and take advantage of special camping rates.

Rockbridge Vineyards' Rock the Barn Dance August 24 will include Little Walter and The Convictions, a popular group bringing you 60s rock. Rock the Barn from 7 to 10 p.m.

Don't miss a free concert at the Old Carnival Grounds in Glasgow on August 31. Glasgow Music in the Park is sure to be a wonderful evening with SaraJane McDonald and Dorsey Hostetter, local favorites. Music starts at 6 p.m. Beverage and food vendors will be on hand.


FAMILY FUN

August 10-11 is Free Kids Weekend at Dinosaur Kingdom II, Caverns at Natural Bridge, and Natural Bridge Zoo!

The 43rd Annual Rockbridge Community Festival takes over downtown Lexington Saturday, August 24. Artisans and craft vendors line Main Street while entertainment rings out from Courthouse Square. Sample food and beverages, watch the blacksmith heat and beat iron into beautiful creations, and enjoy the atmosphere our historic downtown offers.

Night time is the right time for a ghost tour! Join Haunting Tales: Lexington's Ghost Tour for a walking history tour of our sleepy town. The tours depart from the Lexington Visitor Center Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8 p.m.


THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Chill out on the river. Reserve a tube, canoe, kayak or rafting trip with Wilderness Canoe Company on the Upper James River Water Trail.
