August Events and Activities

August is the final hurrah of Summer in Lexington and Rockbridge County, making it the perfect time to #CrushFridayVA and use up a few vacation days. Beat the dog days of summer with a cold craft beer in honor of August Virginia Craft Beer Month, then check out one of these upcoming events.


Lovers of live music will want to circle August 3. Seven Mile Ford, a fun times band playing country, rock, and Top 40. They'll be at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista Friday's in the Park. Bring a chair and your dancing shoes!

First Fridays in Downtown Lexington (August 3) is a family-friendly arts event. Peruse our galleries, meet artists at opening receptions, enjoy craft cocktails at TAPS or Rocca, enjoy the piano at Haywood's, or relish a farm-to-table dinner at one of our downtown restaurants.

Lime Kiln Theater welcomes The Seldom Scene on August 4. They're a decades-old favorite on the bluegrass circuit and repeat performer in Lexington. The gate opens at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Later, on August 31, Lime Kiln hosts John Doyle and Friends. Doyle is a skilled guitarist from a musical family in Dublin, Ireland. You'll love his sound.


The 42nd Annual Rockbridge Community Festival takes over downtown Lexington Saturday, August 25. Artisans and craft vendors line Main Street while entertainment rings out from Courthouse Square. Sample food and beverages, watch the blacksmith heat and beat iron into beautiful creations, and enjoy the atmosphere our historic downtown offers.

The Passport to Adventure offers special pricing to Natural Bridge area attractions. Pick up passports at Lexington Visitor Center, Virginia Horse Center, McDonalds, RC State Theater, Natural Bridge Hotel, Natural Bridge General Store, Jellystone Park Campground, and Layne's Country Store.
