Gems of Rockbridge Geocaching Trail

What is GEOCACHING?

Geocaching is a global high-tech treasure-hunt in which participants use a combination of online clues and GPS coordinates to find “caches” (hidden containers ranging in size from an ammo box to a bottle cap). The caches are often hidden in unique and interesting places which participants may never have discovered on their own, but some are concealed as mundane objects in plain sight. Currently, there are over 1 million active participants and approximately 985,000 caches hidden in over 100 countries.

What is the Geocaching Trail?

The Gems of Rockbridge Geocaching Trail is being developed as part of an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant to enhance the gateway communities along the 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway. The grant funds projects that promote sustainable tourism and enhance the local community while protecting the area's natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The Geocaching Trail consists of 10 strategically placed caches highlighting the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Rockbridge County. Participants who complete the trail will receive a commemorative coin featuring the Gems of Rockbridge Geocaching Trail on one side and the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway on the other side.
